1) An open and honest evaluation of yourself. Do you really want to stop smoking or do you feel like maybe you should? All 'shoulds' are just playing games with your own mind. If you are a 'should' I can guarantee you that it will take longer as when you actually want to quit.

2) Find out what actually triggers your smoking habit. Stress, boredom, anxiety, procrastination, depression, thinking, frustration, social anxiety whatever it may be. The shortest and best way is to help you overcome the problem first, help you develop new coping mechanisms so you can resourcefully deal with the smoking triggers through hypnosis and NLP.
